Windborn by Mary Fan

Cover of Windborn
It shouldn’t be news to any long-time followers that Mary Fan is my favourite author, & once again she has written something that I love. I’m so excited that Windborn is a start of a new series, because it will help heal my heart now that the Starswept series has concluded. I really liked this steady opening to what feels like a powerful series & I cannot wait for more!

The Glamourist by Luanne G. Smith

Some of you may remember my complete obsession with The Vine Witch, & I was so excited to dive into book two in the series – & of course, Luanne did not let me down. Luanne G. Smith has created such an incredible world within these books & the magic system is mesmerising. I really, really cannot get enough.

The Phone Box at the Edge of the World by Laura Imai Messina (translated by Lucy Rand)

This emotional book follows the story of a woman called Yui whose life is torn apart by a natural disaster, but it also features grief in many other forms as well & touches on a variety of experiences. Itโ€™s a sad book, but in a subtle way, & the writer has done an incredible job of slowly reintroducing hope into Yuiโ€™s life, & to the reader. This story is incredibly touching & the way itโ€™s been put together is truly beautiful.

Nemesis & the Swan by Lindsay K. Bandy

Nemesis & the Swan

Nemesis & the Swan caught my attention because of the cover & when I read that it was set in historical France (mainly Paris) I just had to read it! Hรฉlรจne’s story was incredibly emotional but the book was still a relaxing read, something that I needed at the time. This book is written really well & it completely consumed me.

Daughters of Night by Laura Shepherd-Robinson

Daughters of Night
I fell in love with this chonk of a book pretty quickly, & as I turned each page I just became more & more obsessed with Caro & I slowly felt myself becoming almost as determined as she was to solve a murder. I don’t read a lot of mystery books but when I do they have to have female leads like Caro & they must be set in the past, & I always end up loving them. Daughters of Night was incredible & left me pondering why I don’t own more books like it.

David Solomons x2 (1)

I’ve wanted to get my hands on David Solomons’ two middlegrade Doctor Who books ever since they were released & I finally!ย did. And honestly, I was blown away by how good they both were. Both books left me with a massive smile on my face & I really hope that David is asked to write more middlegrade DW books because they were just so. blooming. good!

Goldilocks by Laura Lam

GoldilocksIt didnโ€™t take long for me to be interested in this story; interested in the background, interested in where it was going & interested in how it would work. Laura has writtenย a beautiful story about humanity, impossible choices & the magic of the universe we reside in. I absolutely recommend you pick it up immediately.

The Veiled Descendants by Sophia Menesini

8f649c01-7f07-432b-9ba5-320654a3e2a4Last Halloween I actually left the house to do something social, but there was no way I was going without SOMETHING bookish – so I chose to don some ears & become an elf, just like Pirate Captain, Shae Lara. So, you could say I like this series. But really, I absolutely f’ing love this series & I command all of you to stop what you’re doing (after you’ve read my review of course) & read Sophia’s work immediately.

The Book of Snow & Silence by Zoรซ Marriott

The Book of Snow & Silence
I’ve loved every one of Zoรซ’s previous books that I’ve read, especially Shadows on the Moon (which is one of my favourite ever books for it’s mental health & self-harm representation), so when I found out she was releasing a retelling of The Little Mermaid I was ecstatic! And Zoรซ did not disappoint – this is the most original retelling of the story I’ve ever read & I absolutely lovedย it!

Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko

Raybearer

Raybearer is the start of a debut series by a strong & enchanting voice; Jordan Ifueko has created magic within these pages & has produced a book that I found completely impossible to put down. Publishers need to be supporting more authors of colour like Jordan, because books like this absolutely raise the bar in YA fantasy.
