In The Vanisher’s Palace by Aliette de Bodard

Book Cover
In The Vanisher’s Palace took me a little by surprise because the cover misled me into thinking this was a middlegrade story – it isย notย a middlegrade story!! Nevertheless, I did rather enjoy this strange little novella & I when I finished it I was incredibly disappointed that it had not been longer; I’ve not read any of Aliette’s other work but I think I may have to now, just to get some more weirdness on my shelves.

Winter, White & Wicked by Shannon Dittemore

Book Cover
Winter, White & Wicked is a fresh take on the classic YA quest-trope, with most of the story taking place within the cab of a ice-rig! Add in a kickass driver & a trio of misfits, exciting magic & an icy setting, & you’ve got yourself a winner. I genuinely could have stayed on this journey for days longer than I did & I’m super excited about where the series is going!

Bookish Nails: Belle Rรฉvolte

A photo of my hand held up in front of Belle Revolte; my nails have a French manicure look with a pink base & a gold tip with glitter!Earlier today my review of Belle Rรฉvolte went live, which you can find here & I loved the book, & its cover, so much that I just had to do a #BookishNails look for it โ€“ what do you think?

This was my first time doing a French nail type thing so it was a game of trial & error; the pink needed a few layers to cover properly, which was kindaโ€™ annoying, so it wasnโ€™t as neat as I would have liked but I was still quite happy with them in the end! I felt like the pink matched the colour on the cover really well too which I was super excited about, & then I did a gold, glittery tip to finish it off โ€“ I was really impressed with the gold actually & would definitely recommend it! For a finishing touch, I also had little fleur du lys on my thumbs which I #thought were super cute.

The varnishes I used are listed below with affiliate links for Amazon:

  • Pink: Barry M Nail Paint Bubblegum (920) (Amazon.co.uk)
  • Gold: Models Own Chrome Gold (NP238) (discontinued)
  • Glitter: Seventeen Nail Colour Winter Coat (discontinued)
  • Top Coat: Sally Hansen Insta-Dry (Amazon.co.uk)

A picture of my thumb with a fleur de lis sticker, next to the fleur de lis on the back of the book

And you can purchase the stickers from Daizy Fashion Accessories on eBay by clicking here!

Three Women by Lisa Taddeo

Book Cover
I always feel a little strange reviewing (auto)biographies because it’s almost like I’m reviewing someone’s life, however this book hit me so hard that I felt that Iย needed to write something about it. This is such a beautiful & unique book in which Lisa Taddeo has documented the lives of three very real women – & somehow, whilst doing so, she has managed to explore experiences that all women readers will feel some kind of connection to, & there really are no words to express how magical that is.

The Girl King by Mimi Yu

The Girl King

I was really excited to read The Girl King so I’m really sad that it was a bit of a flop for me. I loved the ending but the rest of the book just didn’t really do it for me due to slow pacing & not enough world-building.

Gone by Nightfall by Dee Garretson

Book Cover
I was incredibly excited to get my hands on this book & I ended up being completely blown away by it; with natural, well-paced & inviting writing, Dee Garretson has created a moving story that presents a realistic & well-balanced view of the Russian revolution. I absolutely loved this book, as well as main character Charlotte, & I was so sad when I finished the final page.

Flynn Nightsider & the Edge of Evil by Mary Fan

Book CoverYet another fantasy world created within the mind of Mary Fan, & what a fantasy world it is! The Edge of Evil progresses mostly at a steady pace, but as you delve further into the world, & the book, the stakes gradually increase & by the end I was completely hooked. If you’ve not dived into one of Mary’s books yet, you absolutely must – she’s one of the best writers in YA fantasy right now (& my favourite author).

It shouldn’t be news to any long-time followers that Mary Fan is my favourite author, & once again she has written something that I love.
