The Girl King by Mimi Yu

The Girl King

I was really excited to read The Girl King so I’m really sad that it was a bit of a flop for me. I loved the ending but the rest of the book just didn’t really do it for me due to slow pacing & not enough world-building.

Gone by Nightfall by Dee Garretson

I was incredibly excited to get my hands on this book & I ended up being completely blown away by it; with natural, well-paced & inviting writing, Dee Garretson has created a moving story that presents a realistic & well-balanced view of the Russian revolution. I absolutely loved this book, as well as main character Charlotte, & I was so sad when I finished the final page.

Flynn Nightsider & the Edge of Evil by Mary Fan

Book CoverYet another fantasy world created within the mind of Mary Fan, & what a fantasy world it is! The Edge of Evil progresses mostly at a steady pace, but as you delve further into the world, & the book, the stakes gradually increase & by the end I was completely hooked. If you’ve not dived into one of Mary’s books yet, you absolutely must – she’s one of the best writers in YA fantasy right now (& my favourite author).

Windborn by Mary Fan

It shouldn’t be news to any long-time followers that Mary Fan is my favourite author, & once again she has written something that I love. I’m so excited that Windborn is a start of a new series, because it will help heal my heart now that the Starswept series has concluded. I really liked this steady opening to what feels like a powerful series & I cannot wait for more!

The Road to the Thirteenth Doctor

I don’t normally read comic books but seeing a cover with both 10 and 13 on it, I just had to order it, & I’m really pleased I did because it’s opened up a whole new platform of Doctor Who stories for me to become obsessed with. This comic is built up of three short stories which are all connected in some way & features three of the Doctors, plus some companions I’d never met before!

GoodReads Review Round-Up

img_5523My list of books Iย needย could be writing reviews for is extremely long & today I realised that a large amount of them are books I read in 2019 so I’ve decided to put together a post that’s made up of my short GoodReads’ reviews of some of these books. None of the books in this post are ones that I’ve been sent to review & I’ve added a little extra to a few reviews, depending on the notes I made when I was reading them. Doing this post means I can still recommend some fantastic books, whilst also taking some of the pressure off myself!
