The Sunshine Blogger Award

Sunshine Blogger AwardI was nominated to take part in the Sunshine Blogger Award by Utopia State Of Mind & I never get tagged to do these things so yay! The tag involves answering 11 questions set by the person who tagged you, coming up with 11 new questions & setting them for 11 other bloggers! You must also list the rules & the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your blog!

My Answers!

1. Make me a meal with books. What would we have for appetiser, mains, desert, soup, salad, etc? For example, what’s a good book to start with? What book is so sweet you’d have it for desert?

Appetiser: As an appetiser I’d want to pick something short, but satisfying, which The Cupcake Witch by Poppy Lawless certainly is! The Cupcake Witch is part of a short trilogy of stories but was definitely my favourite out of the three; any good appetiser leaves you wanting more & The Cupcake Witch certainly did that.

Mains: For the main book I would have to go with something that makes you really want to get your teeth into it, so I’m going to go with False Hearts (or Shattered Minds) by Laura Lam! False Hearts is one of those books that requires your full attention & leaves you feeling breathless when you’ve finished it.

Desert: Desert would definitely have to be Over Easy from The Continental Breakfast Club by Pamela Ford (yes, I know breakfast for desert doesn’t make much sense but shh). I don’t read a lot of romance but the books in this series always really make me laugh & just make me feel warm & fuzzy!

Soup: A soup is something that should go down easily & make you feel warm inside, for that I would pick The Little Shop of Happy Ever After by Jenny Colgan! I absolutely adored this book & it definitely left me feeling warm inside.

Salad: So this would have to be something that’s good for you, & I think Hope by Rhian Ivory is just that – although the book has some down moments it generally leaves you feeling full of hope & positivity!

2. On the note of food, tell me what literary sweet thing you’d bake for someone’s birthday?

I would create a buffet made up of all of the goodies mentioned in Heartless by Marissa Meyer!

3. And because I love food forever, what book scene with food is your favorite? Is it a food fight? A scene of a feast? I am obsessed with eating in books not only because they are so vivid, but because characters don’t need food to eat, so each mention has significance and consideration.

Okay, so it’s not really a specific scene, but in The House of Night books Zoey Redbird, the main character, & her on-off boyfriend Heath have a “spaghetti song”, which they’ve sung whenever they’ve had spaghetti ever since they were children… when Zoey gets moved to The House of Night, she gets really sad when she has spaghetti for the first time because she can’t sing the song with Heath 😦 The reason this popped into my mind for this question is because I used to (sometimes still do) sing a stupid rhyme when I cook spaghetti, so when I read about Zoey & Heath doing something similar it made me smile.

4. What is the book cover you wish you could re-do?

I may get some hate for this, but I don’t think any of the cover editions of Uprooted by Naomi Novik do the book justice! A book as incredible as Uprooted needs a truly magical cover & I just don’t think it does *shrugs*

5. Who would be in your pirate crew?

I literally have no idea how many characters I should include in this so I’m just going to list whoever pops into my head…

  • First would have to be Stark from The House of Night by PC & Kristin Cast – he was my first real book crush & his talent with a bow & arrow could definitely come in handy.
  • I would also want Sora from A Mortal Song by Megan Crewe; I always found Sora’s ability to adapt & her intelligence really great.
  • I would also have to have Suzume from Shadows on the Moon by Zoe Marriott – for one, it’s my favourite book & she’s one of my favourite characters ever, but Suzume was always really good at adapting as well & her powers could definitely come in handy.
  • I would also like to have Rivke from Wordwings by Sydelle Pearl – her storytelling skills would definitely help pass the time!
  • Annamae & Samantha from Under A Painted Sky by Stacey Lee would also be valuable assets to my pirate crew as both are fast-thinking & fast learners!
  • I think Sil from Scion of the Fox by S.M. Beiko would also be great to have on board – her intelligence would be very helpful, although I’m not sure if foxes get sea-sick…
  • I would also love to have Arya & Tyrion from A Song of Ice & Fire – I’m sure I don’t have to say why.

6. What is your favourite under rated TV show?

I really don’t watch much television (other than soap operas) but if I’m going to recommend anything it would have to be Doctor Who – I adore everything about the show & I’m desperate for the next series!

7. Pick me a character you’d fight a dragon with, a character you’d duel, and a character you’d go on an epic quest with.

Clearly I would fight a dragon with Dany from A Song of Ice & Fire – who better to help survive a dragon attack than the Mother of Dragons?!

I would want to duel someone who is totally useless with weapons so that I wouldn’t lose, so it would have to be Tybalt from Romeo & Juliet… after all, he does die in a sword fight with Romeo…

I would go on an epic quest with Tashi from The Tiger’s Watch by Julia Ember! Tashi is super smart & is bonded to a tiger, so that could definitely be useful!

8. What would be your mythical pet?

I would like a niffler – we could really do with the extra money right now!

9. What do we need to see a retelling of?

This comes from an image I saw on Twitter not long ago – a retelling of Beauty & the Beast where Belle is a woman of colour! I feel like this is definitely something that could work!

10. If I could only read one book next year, what book should I read?

I’m going to suggest a non-fiction & a fiction book… For non-fiction I would definitely recommend In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park; this book changed me as a person & I think it’s a really important story considering the things going on in the world right now. The fiction book would have to be my favourite read of this year – The Diplomat’s Daughter by Karin Tanabe! I’m totally obsessed with this story & I want everyone to read it. (The Red Ribbon by Lucy Adlington is also amazing)

11. What narrative do you think the publishing world is severely lacking?

What I would really like to see more of is chronic illnesses – we are starting to see more characters who use mobility aids, as well as deaf characters, but I would like to see more books with things like chronic fatigue or spinal conditions… with real representation of how these things can be limiting! I also agree with Utopia State Of Mind’s one though – we definitely need more adoption narratives; I want to adopt in the future so I would love to read more books about it.

I’m going to nominate the 11 book blogs that I follow that have most recently posted:

01. flippingthruthepages
02. huntressofdiversebooks
03. brilliantlybookishsite
04. thebookierookieblog

06. charlottesomewhere
07. rustlingreads
08. alliembooks
09. booksandmunches
10. goldenbooksgirl

And my 11 questions are…

01. If you could work on the film/TV adaptation of any book, what would it be & why?
02. What book do you wish you’d written?
03. What do you want to see more of in books?
04. What do you think you need to read more of in order to grow as a person?
05. If you could write a book about any event/aspect of your life, what would it be?
06. What book do you wish you’d never read?
07. What book do you wish you could re-read for the first time?
08. Which book will always be on your shelves?
09. What book character do you identify with most?
10. Which celebrity would you like to see write a book?
11. If you could tell a child to read any book, what would it be?
