Body Parts is a novel that really deserves to have been a trilogy – the idea behind the story is brilliant & the writing was of a very high standard. The characters were wonderful, & the world-building was massively intriguing. I hope that Jessica one day decides to write a couple of prequels because there’s so much more I want to know about the characters in this story.
Disclaimer: I was sent an eARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Body Parts tells a story about a world where people are grown & trained so that they are stronger & healthier than any average human; these people are told they’re being trained to be the best versions of themselves so that people will adopt them, but really they’re being developed so that their organs can be harvested & sold… and in a world where drug use is the norm, strong organs are desperately needed.
I loved the concept behind this story & in some ways it seems like this world could’ve fit in very well with Laura Lam’s Pacifica series (which I of course love)! The science fiction is great, but not overwhelming or confusing, & the world building is really intriguing. I read the book in two equal sessions, but had I started the book during the day, rather than at night, I probably would have read it all in one sitting; I was hooked on the story in the same way Ry is hooked on his drugs!
The story was action packed & things kept going wrong for the characters, which of course kept me reading. I think my only issue with the book is that it wasn’t longer! I feel like this whole idea deserves to have been created with more detail, & over a trilogy; I would definitely have bought the sequels. I feel like the characters could have had more depth to them & this could have been achieved by pulling the series over more than one book. It doesn’t feel right that such an incredibly detailed & well thought-out concept is condensed into just 300 pages! At times the story felt rushed as well, which is such a shame. I really hope that Jessica decides to write a couple of prequels because I feel like there could be so much more to this series!
I loved the characters but was never 100% sure who I should trust or who I should hate. The story kept moving & never dragged & there were a fair amount of plot twists. I was totally enchanted by this world & the crimes being committed; I was totally oblivious to anything going on around me whilst I was reading this book. I don’t read a lot of science-fiction but books like this make me want to read more of it. I cannot wait to see what Jessica creates next.
